Each October the Chalk
Mine becomes a “Haunting” place to behold.
Local residents take pride in the Chalk Block
buildings that still adorn our main street.
Just across the North Loup
River from Scotia, is Nebraska’s only Chalk
Mine, chiseled into the base of Happy Jack’s
Peak. This elevated peak was favored by
Ft. Hartsuff army scouts in their efforts to
keep track of the Sioux Indians.
Today, golfers “Putt Off
the Peak”, trying for prize money.
