“Hot Link” http://www.sargentne.com

Sargent is the Chokecherry Capital of Nebraska. Our Chokecherry Jamboree is complete with Pit Spittin’ contests and held each June in connection with the close-by Comstock Windmill Festival.

Sargent, named in 1879, is nestled along the beautiful spring-fed Middle Loup River.

Between 1927 &1974 Sargent and Oscar’s Paladium was the dancing hot-spot of central Nebraska, when it hosted such greats as Guy Lombardo, Lawrence Welk, the Dorsey Brothers and other, world -famous, ‘big bands’. It’s still the place to be during Nebraska’s JUNK JAUNT®.

North Loup, NE

North Loup, NE
“The Popcorn Capital of Nebraska”

In the late 1800’s most area farmers found that popcorn was a profitable crop to plant.

In 1901, North Loup businesses started giving Free Popcorn to their customers. One hundred four years later, during the annual “Pop Corn Days” festival, this custom is continued, with all the free popcorn you can eat while you enjoy the entertainment.

North Loup was founded in 1872, by Rev. Oscar Babcock and his hearty band of Seventh Day Baptist.

Grand Island, NE

Grand Island, NE

In the mid-1800’s a plan came to light to develop a city along the Platte River Road, in hopes that its’ central location would be ideal for the relocation of the nation’s capitol from Washington D.C.

In 1857, the banking house of Chubb Brothers & Barrows from Davenport Iowa financed an expedition of 35 German immigrants, with instructions to choose their settlement’s location within an area named by French fur traders as “La Grande Isle”, an island in the Platte River.

By Sept 1857, log houses had been constructed from ash, elm and cottonwood timber. Their dream, of course, never became reality, but our German heritage remains strong.

Ord, NE

Ord, NE

Visit the official Ord, Nebraska Ord Area Chamber of Commerce / Valley County Economic Development Website.

Ord was selected as county seat for Valley County in 1873.  The town was then laid out in early 1874.  About this time General E.O.C. Ord was in command of the military department of the Platte and made a trip up the North Loup Valley for the purpose of establishing or selecting a location for Fort Hartsuff. It was decided to name the new town “Ord” in his honor.

Ord continues to be an example of success in a rural community. Stop and shop, visit or tour, we think you’ll agree Ord is ExtraORDinary!o]
